L0-Regularization based Material Design for Hexahedral Mesh Models
Published in Computer-Aided Design and Applications, 19(6), 1171–1183, 2022
This paper presents an efficient numerical method for optimizing the Young’s modulus distribution over a hexahedral mesh model so that the model deforms as desired under given loads. An L0 regularization term is introduced into the formulation to encourage sparsity of the material distribution, which is particularly advantageous for sparsely distributed materials and improves manufacturability. A conference version appeared in the CAD’21 proceedings.
